Can I rent textbooks online?
No. Textbooks may only be rented in-store, no exceptions. You may, however, place an online order for your books to be picked up in-store and rent them at the time of pickup.

Can my parents/grandparents/significant other/friends rent textbooks for me?
No. All textbooks must be rented by the student. No exceptions. Parents, grandparents, significant others, friends, or anyone else who is not the student will not be permitted to rent the book. Anyone else may pay for the rented textbook, but the student must be present in order to complete the rental.

What do I need in order to rent a textbook?
Students who wish to rent a textbook need to have a photo ID and a valid credit card.

How can I pay for my rental? Does it have to be with a credit card?
Rentals may be paid for with cash, check, credit cards, or PTAs (when open). A credit card is required at the time of purchase only to secure the rental in the event the rental is not returned at the end of the rental period.

What happens if I do not return the textbook at the end of the rental period?
The credit card that you supplied at the time of rental will be charged for the remainder of the purchase price of the textbook. If the card cannot be charged (card has been canceled, credit limit has been reached, etc.), then a hold will be placed on the student's account. The hold will not be removed until the student pays the late rental fee in the Bookstore.

I have a late rental fee I need to pay. Where do I do this?
Late rental fees are paid off with the Cashier's Office in the same way that you would pay off a PTA.

I have decided that I would like to purchase the book I rented. Can I do this?
Yes. Please inform the Bookstore staff that you would like to purchase the book. The credit card that you supplied at the time of rental will be charged for the remainder of the purchase price of the textbook.

Can I write in my rental textbook?
Yes. You may write and highlight in your rental textbook, so long as it is not excessive (parts of the book completely blanked out, pages covered in ink, mustaches drawn on every single photograph in the book, etc.).

Do I get money back when I return my rental?
No. When you are renting a textbook, you are paying a reduced price in order to use it for only one semester.

I dropped my class! Can I return my rental for a refund?
As long as you have your receipt, you may return your rental for a full refund through the first week of classes for the semester for which the book is being rented, the same as if you had purchased the book.

What condition do my rental books need to be in when I return them?
Returned rental books must be in resellable condition. They must be completely free of water damage. All parts of the book must be present--no pages can be torn out or removed, and binder books must have both the front and back covers. Books that were rented as part of an anthology (for example, some literature collections in multiple volumes) must have all volumes present at the time of return. If a book does not meet these conditions, then it will be turned away, and the student will be charged the difference between the rental price and the purchase price.
