I just placed my order. How long will it take?
Order processing speed varies depending on the time of year. Most of the time, orders are processed within 24 business hours. The first two weeks of the semester are our peak times, and we ask that you allow at least 48 hours for orders placed during these times to be processed. We are closed on the weekends, so any order placed on a Friday would not be processed until the following Monday.

If you are picking up your order in the store, please wait until you have received an email saying that the order is ready to be picked up, as orders will not be immediately available for pickup. This will minimize your in-store wait.

If your order is going to be shipped, it will go out via UPS Ground within 24 hours of receiving a shipment notification. Exact shipping times may vary depending on UPS. The Bookstore must have a physical street address for shipping and is unable to ship to a PO Box. If a physical mailing address is not provided at the time the order is placed, shipping will be delayed.

What forms of payment do you accept?

The Bookstore accepts payment in cash, via check, or through Discover, Master Card, or Visa. At the beginning of the semester, students may also open a PTA, an interest free charge account, with the Bookstore and purchase their books using that.

The Bookstore cannot accept American Express or Cowboy Cash. We also cannot accept checks as payment for orders to be shipped.

If you are a parent or guardian interested in paying for your child's textbooks, please be aware that we are unable to take credit card numbers or debit card numbers over the phone. Please place an online order to be picked up in the store and use your credit card as a payment method, or please have your student open up a PTA in order to purchase their books, as the PTA may be paid off online at a later date.

What is your return policy?

1. Original receipt is required for all returns, refunds, and exchanges of textbooks and merchandise.

2. Textbooks that were purchased for the current semester may be refunded or exchanged through the first Friday of that semester. Textbooks must be in original packaging and/or shrink-wrap and free of any damage, markings, or use.

3. Merchandise may be refunded or exchanged when returned within 7 days of purchase. For a refund, the merchandise must be in unused, unopened, and new condition with the original tags attached; for an exchange, the merchandise must be in resale condition.

You must contact the Bookstore before shipping back any items to be returned, either through calling us at (337) 475-5494 or through using our contact form. All web orders to be returned MUST have the printed cash register receipt. The email that is sent out upon placing a web order is not a valid receipt for returns.

I have a specific question about my order/need to cancel my order/need to update my order.

Please call the Bookstore at 337-475-5494 or use our contact form. Please include your order number in order to allow us to locate your order information more quickly.

Can I rent a textbook online?

No. Textbooks must be rented in person at the Bookstore, no exceptions. We do not ship out rental textbooks. Only active students of McNeese may rent textbooks, and textbooks may not be rented by anyone else but the student. For example, a parent may not rent a textbook for his or her child. A parent may pay for the child's textbook rental, but the child must complete all paperwork and the transaction themselves. Please refer to our Rental FAQ for more information on renting textbooks.

How much profit does the Bookstore make on textbooks?

The majority of the sticker price on new books, roughly 65.8%, goes back to the publisher. This covers development costs and business expenses. The author receives roughly 11.8% in royalties. Some of the money, approximately 1%, covers freight costs involved in shipping the book from the publisher to the store. The rest of this money goes to the University, where it is used to cover staff wages and benefits, as well as insurance, taxes, and other overhead costs.

Why doesn't the Bookstore choose cheaper books?

The Bookstore purchases books that have been selected by the departments. Professors and department heads spend a great deal of time reviewing scores of books in order to find the best ones for their courses. The department head submits a list of books to be ordered each semester. The Bookstore endeavors to keep textbook prices as low as possible and tries to encourage faculty to choose books early so that the store has more time to source used books.

Why are some books worth more than others during buyback?

Books that will be used for classes in the next semester will generally be worth more than books that will not be used for the next semester. Books that aren't being used next semester are being purchased wholesale for resale elsewhere.

In some cases, the same book can be worth different amounts at different points in the buyback period. This is usually a matter of timing. The Bookstore has a quota of certain titles based on enrollment for the next term; books over this quota will receive a lower amount. Sometimes, the quota can be increased in the middle of the buyback period, resulting in books that were previously being given a lower price seeing an increase in value.

When is textbook buyback?

The Bookstore runs an in-store buyback during the week of finals each semester, and this is when you will receive the best price for your books. There is also an online buyback option available here that runs year-round.
